Teach For Thailand is looking for a Strategy and Operations Manager to join the CEO’s Office. The ideal candidate will have a professional background that has required them to work at a fast pace on a variety of reactive and proactive projects. This person will be highly comfortable with ambiguity and with readjusting to a rapidly-changing environment. They will have exceptional detail orientation, with demonstrable experience implementing solid personal management systems that enable them to keep track of multiple complex projects, dozens of scheduling requests, travel arrangements, meetings, and requests for the CEO’s time and input. 

The Strategy and Operations Manager will be compassionate and deliberate, with a keen ability to place themselves in the CEO’s shoes and find strategic and creative solutions to his many competing priorities. They will love working collaboratively with others, and feel that it comes naturally to them to proactively  share information and problem-solve with colleagues and external stakeholders alike. This person will look forward to coming in daily and tackling a wide and ever-changing scope; and do whatever it takes for the CEO, the leadership team and the organization to be more productive and successful. The position will report directly to the CEO.

The Role : Strategy and Ops Manager

Key outcomes for this role will be the following:

  • An increase in score for Objective and Aspiration domain in our annual employee survey 
  • Strategic initiatives are launched and eventually transition to the relevant team members within the agreed period 
  • The board of directors are engaged and perform their duty in compliance with laws, ethical standards, regulations, foundation bylaws articles, and best in class good governance practices. 
  • The CEO spends 90% of his time each week on meetings and activities that will advance him toward his goals.
  • All stakeholders who have contact with the CEO’s office experience warm and efficient customer service and leave with a positive impression of the organization.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Effective management of the rhythm of the organization and strategic initiatives 
      • Lead the planning and coordination of our Operating Cadence (annual planning, leadership team meetings, monthly all hands, quarterly business reviews, OKRs etc) to strengthen our operating rhythm and processes whilst increasing our impact  
      • Lead and/or Co-Lead strategic initiatives on behalf of the CEO and/or the leadership team such as Climate Education Initiative integration, Regionalisation, Growth Funds etc. 
      • Lead and assist CEO’s projects, including fundraising, government relations activities, and classrooms/communities visit 
  • Effective operations of oversight body 
      • Lead the planning and project management of Board meetings (develop agendas, timing, travel, coordinate materials and etc) 
      • Work with CEO and Board Chair to prepare for meetings, and ensure that meeting minutes and any relevant documents are disseminated/followed up on after each meeting 
      • Support CEO with individual cultivation plan for each Board member on a quarterly basis, with the goal of deepening their engagement and understanding of the organization 
      • Draft communications on behalf of CEO and board members in their capacity to fully represent the organization 
  • Effective management of CEO’s Office to increase his impact and contributions 
    • Work with the CEO’s Assistant on all scheduling to ensure the CEO’s time is aligned with his priorities. 
      1. Manage day-to-day internal and external scheduling, prioritizing and re-prioritizing and engaging with numerous stakeholders with a high level of care, urgency and sensitivity. 
      2. Confirm and reconfirm all scheduled meetings; work closely with the relevant teams to determine next steps for meeting requests in order to ensure that critical meetings are secured. 
      3. Develop and maintain CEO’s travel calendar including local (across at least 15 provinces) and international schedule 
      4. Project manage trips, setting up regular communications with staff members who are coordinating the visit to ensure an effective schedule and that the CEO has received and reviewed all relevant trip preparation materials
      5. Research and book transportation as well as accommodations, ensure appropriate location, costs, etc. 
    • Draft correspondences (Thai and English) for the CEO for external and internal stakeholders
    • Oversee the office’s budget and ensure expenditures are cost-effective and aligned the values of the organization

Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree required, or advanced degree (MBA, MPA etc)
  • A quick learner; you immerse yourself in new problems and quickly get up to speed.
  • A skilled communicator; you communicate concisely and persuasively in multiple formats, including email, written documents, digital presentations, and verbal conversations.
  • Analytical with strong problem-solving skills. Comfortable & skilled at identifying trends, and drawing evidence-based conclusions to adjust implementation plans.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, a curious mind with a bias toward action.
  • A great collaborator; you can lead and inspire change, including influencing and motivating others through relationship building without needing formal authority.
  • Machine like approach to planning and design; enabling multiple projects to be completed on time
  • A self starter, highly independent, as well as take direction as needed
  • Reflective with growth mindset; you can reflect inwardly on your successes/failures, have the ability to pick yourself up, learn from successes/failures, and not make the same mistakes again 
  • Fluent in Thai and English
