10 years of multiplier impact on education

Thai Students to Global Citizens

Today, Worachapha Banyongkid (Fair), an alumnus of cohort 3 of Teach For Thailand (TFT), continues to work as an Integrated Mathematics teacher at Roong Aroon School. Fair's choice to pursue her career in education reflects the ambition she honed since joining the Fellowship program, as well as the determination her two-year experience has motivated in her. But what change has she made along the way? "Joining TFT, I've decided that people development is my passion, especially developing younger citizens so they could grow up to be quality adults and expand positivity to parts of society."

Make the Wish Come True

"If it weren't for Kru Pao, Amphon might have quit school," Napa Alsi, Amphon’s mother, told us. Amphon is a student of Nopardol Bootsatorn (Pao), a Teach For Thailand (TFT) Fellow (cohort 5), and her transformation reflects Pao’s impact beyond the classroom on the life of a student.

The Mission Beyond Classroom

“I was fortunate to have received a good education, so I wanted to do something in return. Plus, this is a rare chance to challenge myself like this.” Suppanut Lertprasertphakorn (Walnut), a Teach For Thailand alumnus (cohort 2), shared with us his experiences during the two-year Fellowship program. He was a Mathematics teacher at Chimplee School, Taling Chan, Bangkok, and was able to improve students' overall performance in Mathematics despite many of them lacking basic calculation skills.

Creating a Network for Systemic Education Transformation

Our Fellowship Program has a simple but important goal: to make sure our alumni continue making positive changes in the Thai education system. Our alumni bring valuable skills and experiences to their various careers. Many of them go on to learn more, work in corporates, and more than half are actively involved in education, especially in areas like education policy, educational innovation, and school leadership. This ongoing involvement has led to significant improvements in the broader education system. The importance of working together to bring about big changes is nicely explained by White-Suwimon Watanapa, a current graduate student at King's College London. She points out that while different teaching methods can work well in classrooms, having the right rules and policies in place is essential increating a good learning environment. "Sometimes, we come up with creative solutions, but having the right rules and policies is necessary to make them work well. Working on these policies can have a big impact, especially when we all work together. It can achieve even better results than working alone."

Right Decisions that Impact Schools and Communities

"Khru Friend, have made a real impact on students' confidence when they approach teachers and understand their challenges. This led to more resources for Wang Nuea Wittaya School," shared Tewin Yenjai, the Director of the school in Lampang Province. He praised Chaiyawin Sutthiboon, an 8th-cohort fellow, for teaching science and offering psychological counseling, providing extra support to students. "Teach For Thailand teachers are skilled and modern, focusing on skills, participation, and sparking ideas in children," he added. "After students spoke with school administrators, we saw improvements – they were more open to talking to teachers, and a platform was created for personal and various issue questions." Collaborating with schools and communities is a core part of our mission to broaden our impact. For Teach For Thailand, leadership means taking the right actions to drive progress for themselves and others. Fellows use leadership to develop themselves, their students, and the community.

Inspiring Confidence, Shaping Student Beliefs

"Khru Ving often says 'You Can Do It,' and that was when I thought I couldn't help my friends on the team with anything. But then I began thinking about what I could do," echoed Job, one of a fellow’s students. He studied with Ving - Panisara Suksraem, a 3rd cohort fellow. This statement reflects her unique teaching style. "Without Khru Ving, I might have stayed closed-minded, fearing new things, sticking to what I'm good at, and staying in my comfort zone." From her first week at the school, Ving had important tasks. For instance, a group of students asked for advice on making a short film because they knew she had filming experience.

The wind beneath our wings

"Once, on a mission to promote the Program, our car broke down on the highway. While waiting, I thought about what to do. So, I displayed a Teach For Thailand signage by the roadside to raise awareness." Sai - Nicha Pittayapongsakorn, now a researcher and independent consultant, co-founded Teach For Thailand. She recalls the challenges she and her team faced when establishing the foundation. "As a team, we debated whether we could really set up this organization. We decided that if it didn't work, at least we tried. We were ready to return to our corporate jobs if we had to." In the journey of founding an educational organization striving to be the top choice for young talents, many unsung heroes worked tirelessly behind the scenes, acting as the driving force that propelled Teach For Thailand through its 10-year journey.

Go Further, Towards a Better Future

Thailand faces complex education challenges, and to address them, we need individuals from all sectors who understand and have firsthand experience with these issues. But what's more important is the shared belief that every child has the potential to shape their future through quality education.
