Dew, Sukontha Nilyok, one of our proud Alumni cohorts 7 of Teach for Thailand (TFT)

Our proud Sukontha Nilyok (Dew), Alumna cohort 7, was one of the 20 selected Thai individuals to receive the Chevening scholarship out of over 70,000 applicants. She will be studying at the University of Oxford. It came as no surprise to us, as Dew's classrooms have been well-known among TFTers for the past few years.

As a Fellow, Dew’s work at Phattharayan Witthaya School left an impression on the school’s director, who appointed her as a consultant on curriculum development and teacher training, even after her two-year Fellowship. This was to encourage the right attitude and ensure standards for quality education at the school. However, Dew did not stop at classrooms; she also initiated many projects, big and small. These include organizing activities with TFT’s partner, Garena, for her students interested in E-Sports-related careers, launching “Englishable” with her college juniors to provide free extra English classes for her students, and conducting research on challenges related to access to education during COVID-19. This research led to the production of a digital handbook for parents to support their children’s education. Dew was selected as a participant in the EdTech Asia Summit in Singapore to learn about educational technologies and establish her network with people in this field.

Dew attributes her success to her teachers at Thammasat University, the education staff at Phattharayan Witthaya School, and Teach For Thailand for cultivating leadership in her. This led to her reception of the Chevening scholarship to pursue a master’s degree in Education (Digital and Social Changes) at the University of Oxford. According to Dew, the scholarship places importance on those with leadership and the ability to establish networks—two things she has been doing during her two years as a Fellow. She explained, “During those two years, I was able to make a difference in the classroom and the school.” Dew believes that all of her project’s success was due to networking and inspiring people, both inside and outside of school, bringing them together for the benefit of the students.

As Dew is determined to return and improve education in her home province, Teach For Thailand congratulates her and wishes her the best in this new chapter of her life. We celebrate having yet another quality leader in the field of Education in Thailand.”
