When the Fellows Leave, the Change Stays
The question donors and partners ask most often is a reasonable one: what happens when the Fellows leave?

Tongtaa - Nopasit Jakrapharnich and Pinkpak - Orrumpa Nilsonthi, Cohort 9 Fellows at Thephsala Prachasun School in Nakhon Sawan, have now completed their Fellowship. But the answer to that question is already visible in what they left behind.
They arrived with one clear belief: you cannot change a school by acting on it from the outside. You change it by becoming part of it. So they spent their entire first term doing only one thing: building trust. No programs yet. No requests for change. Just time.
When they were ready, they brought together people who had never sat in the same room: the school principal, teachers, a local police officer, the public health officer, and the mayor. For the first time, all of them discussed the same question: what kind of students do we want this school to produce?
What came out of that conversation was a shared vision the school adopted as its own: "Students who are quality global citizens, supported by a sustainable learning community."
From that agreement came action. Students began real internships at the local health clinic, the police station, and district government offices. They didn't shadow people — they worked. Some discovered a direction they wanted to pursue. Some discovered what they didn't want. Both were evidence.
"That itself," said Tongtaa, "is proof that they found themselves."
The internships were not designed to be a one-time event. They were designed to travel. When the data came in, 88.6% of Grade 10 students said they wanted to do internships like their seniors. The program was passing from peer to peer without anyone pushing it.
The school has since written the program into its official school policy. Not as a tribute to Tongtaa and Pinkpak. As a decision the school made for itself.
"The stories pass from class to class. When that happens, sustainability follows."
That is the mechanism this investment has been building. Not a two-year placement. Not a project that depends on one person showing up. But the conditions — the trust, the shared ownership, the school's own belief that it can move — that make change possible long after any Fellow has gone.
Tongtaa and Pinkpak have left. The school is no longer asking whether change is possible. It is asking: how do we make this permanent?
