ความเชื่อของครูท็อฟมาจากประสบการณ์ตรงของตัวเอง
“ตอนที่ไปเรียนนิวซีแลนด์ใหม่ๆ ผมก็พูดไม่ได้เหมือนกัน แต่เริ่มจากการพูดคุยและดูหนัง ภายใน 2 ปีก็พูดคล่องขึ้น ผมอยากให้นักเรียนได้ซึมซับวิธีพูดของเจ้าของภาษา เข้าใจการออกเสียง และมีความกล้ามากขึ้น”
ครูท็อฟตั้งชมรมนี้ในปีที่ 2 ของการเป็นครูผู้นำการเปลี่ยนแปลง ด้วยแนวคิดเดียว คือ “บรรยากาศการเรียนรู้ต้องสนุก ผ่อนคลาย และปลอดภัยพอที่เด็กจะกล้าทำผิด”
ชมรมที่จุดไฟให้เด็กคนหนึ่ง
ชมรมนี้จุดประกายความสนใจของ “เอ นันติ” นักเรียนที่ชอบภาษาอังกฤษจากการเล่นเกมอยู่แล้ว พอเห็นชมรมของครูท็อฟก็รู้สึกสนใจในความแปลกใหม่ทันที
“ตอนแรกผมก็เดินหาชมรมไปเรื่อยๆ พอเป็นวิชาอังกฤษที่ต้องเรียนไวยากรณ์เป็นหลัก ผมก็ไม่ค่อยตั้งใจเรียน เรียนผ่านๆ พอเจอชมรมครูท็อฟ รู้สึกแปลกใหม่ ได้ฝึกพูด ฝึกฟัง ได้เจอคำสแลงที่ใช้จริงในชีวิตประจำวัน ผมก็เลยเลือกชมรมนี้” เอเล่า
นอกจากบรรยากาศที่ผ่อนคลายในคาบชมรม ครูท็อฟยังให้นักเรียนสะท้อนความรู้สึกหลังดูหนังจบทุกครั้ง พร้อมฝึกพูดประโยคที่ใช้ได้จริงในชีวิตประจำวัน ภายใต้แนวคิดเดียวคือ “ผิดไม่เป็นไร” เพื่อให้เด็กกล้าพูดออกมามากขึ้น
สิ่งที่ยังอยู่กับเขาจนถึงวันนี้
การเรียนรู้ในชมรมยังคงต่อเชื้อไฟให้เอจนถึงวันนี้ ปัจจุบันเอทำงานที่ร้าน “โพทง” ย่านสำเพ็ง และใช้ภาษาอังกฤษต้อนรับและรับออเดอร์ลูกค้าเป็นประจำ
“ผมได้ทักษะการฟังจากการติดดูหนังเสียงพากย์อังกฤษตั้งแต่ตอนอยู่ชมรม ผมชอบได้ยินภาษาที่เขาพูดกันจริงๆ พอลูกค้าต่างชาติพูดมา ผมฟังออกทุกคำ และที่สำคัญคือกล้าออกเสียงให้ชัดเจน จากที่เมื่อก่อนอายเพื่อนตอนพยายามออกเสียงให้ชัด การเรียนกับครูท็อฟเปลี่ยนความคิดตรงนี้ไปเลย” เอเล่า
เรื่องของเอสะท้อนให้เห็นพลังของการมองเห็นศักยภาพในตัวเด็กคนหนึ่ง แล้วอยู่เคียงข้างสนับสนุนให้เขาเดินต่อในทางของตัวเอง

Spark Inspiration to Learn Language
He Used to Dread English Class. Now He Speaks It Every Day, Serving Customers From Around the World.
“I believe a Fellow’s job is not only to teach a subject. It is to look for the potential hidden inside every child. If you find it and help ignite it, that child can go far.”
That is what ‘Tof’ — Kasidis Chutima, a Cohort 1 Alum — believes. Today, he teaches English at Klong Nong Yai School in Bangkok, where he created an English club called “Learning English from Movies.”
Tof’s own belief in language came from personal experience.
“When I first went to study in New Zealand, I couldn’t speak either. But I started by talking with people and watching movies. Within two years, I became more fluent. I wanted my students to absorb the way native speakers talk, understand pronunciation, and build more confidence.”
He started the club in his second year of teaching, built on one idea:
“The learning environment has to be fun, relaxed, and safe enough for students to feel comfortable making mistakes.”
A Club That Sparked a Student’s Interest
The club caught the attention of “Ae” (Nanti) — a student who already liked English because of the video games he played, and who was drawn to something new when he saw Tof’s club.
“At first, I just wandered around looking for a club to join. Regular English class was mostly grammar, so I wasn’t very interested and studied half-heartedly. But when I found this club, it felt new. I got to practice speaking, practice listening, and pick up the slang people actually use in real life. So I chose this one,” Ae said.
Beyond creating a relaxed atmosphere during club sessions, Tof built learning into every film — asking students to reflect on how they felt after watching, and practicing sentences they could really use in everyday life, all under one belief: “it’s okay to be wrong” — so students would feel confident enough to speak up.
What Stayed With Him
What Ae learned in the club continues to fuel his own growth. Today, he works at Potong, a restaurant in Bangkok’s Sampheng area, where he regularly uses English to welcome customers and take their orders.
“I got my listening skills from being hooked on watching movies with English audio in the club. I genuinely like hearing the language the way it’s really spoken. When foreign customers talk to me, I understand every word. And most importantly, I gained the confidence to pronounce things clearly. I used to feel shy in front of my friends whenever I tried to speak clearly. Learning with Tof changed that,” Ae said.
Ae’s story shows the power of what happens when someone sees the potential in one child — and stays to support and empower them to keep moving forward on their own path.
